Aluminium imports into the EU from China

How much aluminium Europe buys from China — the monthly volume, the price per tonne, how it's trending, and the tariff it pays — from official EU data.

China makes more than half the world's aluminium, and is a major source of the metal and semi-finished products the EU buys from outside the bloc. For European buyers it offers scale and price, but also the most trade-policy friction of any origin.

The panel below pulls the latest official figures from Eurostat: how many tonnes of unwrought aluminium the EU imported from China in the most recent reported month, the total value, the implied customs unit value in euros per tonne (a declared trade average, not the LME price), the year-on-year change, and China's share of all the aluminium the EU imports from outside the bloc.

Why the tariff matters here

China has no trade agreement with the EU, so Chinese unwrought aluminium enters at the standard 3% (not alloyed) or 6% (alloys) most-favoured-nation duty — unlike Norwegian or Icelandic metal, which enters at 0%. On top of that, the EU maintains anti-dumping duties on several Chinese aluminium products (extrusions, flat-rolled products, foil), which can add much more than the base tariff. And because Chinese smelters are largely coal-powered and carbon-intensive, Chinese metal faces some of the highest CBAM exposure for eligible 2026 imports; certificate purchasing begins in February 2027. Those layers of cost are exactly why buyers track origin, not just headline price. Confirm the legal rate and any measure for a specific 10-digit code in the EU's official TARIC database. How this page is built

Every number here is computed live in your browser from Eurostat's COMEXT trade database (EU trade by CN product code), reused under the European Commission's free-reuse terms with attribution. "Extra-EU" means trade with countries outside the EU. Figures are indicative and are not spot, LME or contract prices. MatQuo is an analytical tool, not investment advice.
