Privacy Policy
Last updated: 4 October 2026.
MatQuo is designed to need as little of your data as possible. This page explains what that means in practice.
Who we are
MatQuo ("we", "us") is an independent website published at matquo.com. For any privacy question you can reach us at hello@matquo.com. For the purposes of the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), we are the data controller for this website.
What we collect
MatQuo has no user accounts, no sign-up, and no login. We do not ask you for your name, email or any personal details to use the site.
- Analytics. Google Analytics 4 loads on every page. In the EU and the rest of the EEA, the UK and Switzerland, it runs without Analytics cookies until you consent through Google's privacy controls. Elsewhere, Analytics runs normally and may use cookies unless you reject or withdraw permission. It can process page views, session information, browser and device details and approximate location; when cookies are permitted it can also use pseudonymous identifiers such as
_gaand_ga_*. Even without cookies, the Google tag sends measurement and technical request information to Google. Aggregate reporting does not mean that the underlying collection is anonymous. MatQuo does not enable Google signals or advertising personalisation signals for Analytics. See Google's explanation of Analytics data collection. - Technical logs. Like almost all websites, our hosting and security provider (Cloudflare) automatically processes basic technical information — such as your IP address, browser type and the pages requested — to deliver the site, keep it secure and prevent abuse. This is standard server logging.
- Live data requests. Some figures are fetched by your browser directly from the official data providers listed below. When that happens, your browser contacts those providers directly, and their own privacy terms apply to that request.
Cookies, analytics and local storage
MatQuo uses Google Privacy & Messaging as its certified consent-management platform (CMP) for advertising in the EEA, UK and Switzerland. The CMP records choices through the IAB Transparency and Consent Framework (TCF). A tap, scroll, keypress or continued use of the site is never treated as consent.
The visible Privacy choices control in the footer uses Google's revocation interface. It lets you reopen the standard message, review granular purposes and vendors, change a choice or withdraw consent. Withdrawing clears the current European consent record and presents the choices again. Functional preferences and cached public data are separate.
MatQuo uses advanced Consent Mode with regional defaults. In the EU and the rest of the EEA, the UK and Switzerland, Analytics and advertising storage default to denied until consent: Analytics can send cookieless measurement pings, but it cannot set Analytics cookies. Elsewhere, these defaults are granted and Analytics runs normally. Google's banner is the only consent banner; MatQuo does not create consent from a tap, scroll or continued browsing. When the banner is available, your actual choices update these defaults. Advertising consent alone does not grant Analytics permission. Rejecting or withdrawing Analytics consent stops MatQuo's Analytics collection and removes accessible first-party Analytics cookies without clearing functional preferences or cached public data. Opening Privacy choices pauses Analytics while Google's controls load, including when those controls are temporarily unavailable. You can review how Google uses information from sites that use its services at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.
Advertising
MatQuo uses Google AdSense. In the EEA, UK and Switzerland, Google's certified CMP and the resulting genuine TCF signals determine the eligible serving mode. If you grant the required purposes and vendors, Google may serve personalised ads. If you permit advertising but not personalisation, Google may serve non-personalised ads where supported. If you choose Do not consent, withdraw consent or do not grant the permissions required for personalised or non-personalised ads, Google may serve only eligible Limited Ads; it must not treat rejection as permission for personalised advertising.
Non-personalised ads use contextual information such as the content being viewed and coarse location rather than past behaviour. Limited Ads do not use personal data for ad personalisation, but ad-serving code and creatives are still transmitted and may be cached. Technical data such as IP addresses is still used to deliver an ad. Because programmatic Limited Ads are enabled in this AdSense account, Google may use invalid-traffic-detection-only cookies, local storage and Shared Storage to prevent fraud and abuse. Outside the European-message region, AdSense applies the account's ad-serving settings and any locally applicable privacy signals.
Third-party vendors, including Google, may use cookies to serve ads based on a visitor's earlier visits to MatQuo or other websites when the applicable privacy choice permits that use. Visitors can also manage personalised advertising in Google Ads Settings. Where third-party ad technology providers participate, their identities and purposes are disclosed in the Google privacy choices interface.
MatQuo does not sell personal data. Advertising never changes calculator results, datasets, methodology or editorial content.
Some tool pages also include Amazon affiliate links to related equipment. As an Amazon Associate, MatQuo earns from qualifying purchases — at no extra cost to you, and it never affects the calculations or the data we show.
Third-party data sources
MatQuo presents data reused from official public sources, including Eurostat, the European Central Bank, the U.S. Energy Information Administration and the European Commission (TARIC / Access2Markets), and news headlines aggregated from providers such as EIA, OilPrice.com and the GDELT Project. When you click a headline or an external link you leave MatQuo and the destination site's own privacy policy applies.
Your rights
Under the GDPR you have the right to access, correct or erase personal data we hold about you, to restrict or object to processing, and to lodge a complaint with your local data-protection authority. Because we do not operate accounts and hold no personal profiles, in most cases we simply have no personal data tied to you to act on — but you are welcome to contact us at hello@matquo.com with any request.
Children
MatQuo is a professional information tool and is not directed at children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect data from them.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the site evolves. The "last updated" date above will always reflect the current version.
