Polypropylene imports into the EU from India

How much polypropylene Europe buys from India — the monthly volume, the price per tonne, how it's trending, and the tariff it pays — from official EU data.

India is a growing force in polypropylene, with integrated refiner-petrochemical majors such as Reliance Industries turning refinery propylene into resin at large coastal complexes. As Indian capacity expands, it is an increasingly visible non-EU source of the polymer behind automotive parts, packaging, fibres and household goods.

The panel below pulls the latest official figures from Eurostat: how many tonnes of polypropylene the EU imported from India in the most recent reported month, the total value, the implied customs unit value in euros per tonne (a declared trade average, not a spot market price), the year-on-year change, and India's share of all the polypropylene the EU imports from outside the bloc.

Why the tariff matters here

Because there is no EU–India free-trade agreement in force (talks are ongoing) and polypropylene is not covered by EU GSP preferences for India, Indian polypropylene typically enters at the EU's standard most-favoured-nation duty of 6.5% — the same rate as Gulf origins, and unlike South Korean resin, which enters duty-free under the EU–Korea FTA. That 6.5% is a real cost difference between origins, and it is one reason buyers watch where their polymer comes from, not just its headline price. The exact legal rate for a given 10-digit code and shipment should always be confirmed in the EU's official TARIC database.

How this page is built

Every number here is computed live in your browser from Eurostat's COMEXT trade database (EU trade since 1988 by CN product code), reused under the European Commission's free-reuse terms with attribution. "Extra-EU" means trade with countries outside the EU. Figures are indicative and are not spot, contract or settlement prices. MatQuo is an analytical tool, not investment advice.

Frequently asked questions

Is India a major polypropylene supplier to the EU?
It is a growing non-EU origin, led by Reliance Industries. The live figures above show its latest tonnes, value and share.

What tariff applies to Indian polypropylene?
Generally the EU's standard 6.5% MFN duty, as there is no EU–India FTA in force and PP is not GSP-covered. Confirm in TARIC.

How fresh is the data?
Eurostat publishes monthly trade with roughly a two-month lag; this page always shows the latest available month.
