Material Carbon Calculator

Cradle-to-gate production CO₂e for a quantity of a single material, from verified primary sources — with the system boundary and source shown. Not a cross-material comparison.

Need more than production? The advanced calculator adds transport emissions and end-of-life recycling context on top of the same verified production data.

What this is — and isn't

This estimates the production (cradle-to-gate) climate footprint of one material at a time, using values MatQuo has verified from the primary source. It shows the system boundary, functional unit, geography and source for every result. It is not a "which material is greener?" tool: comparing 1 kg of one material with 1 kg of another ignores that different materials do different jobs. Where MatQuo does not yet hold a verified value (paper & board), it says so rather than guessing.

Important boundaries

Steel's end-of-life recycling credit is reported separately by worldsteel and is not subtracted from the cradle-to-gate figure. Aluminium's 14.8 is a global average that varies greatly with the electricity mix. Flat-glass EPDs are per m² of 4 mm glass; any per-kg figure is derived and labelled. Values are read live from MatQuo's verified dataset.
