Freight CO₂ Calculator

Estimate transport CO₂e from weight, distance and mode. Uses verified well-to-wheel factors, shows the range, and states the source and assumptions.

km
g/t·km

How it is calculated

tonne-km = tonnes × distance(km), then CO₂e = tonne-km × factor (g/t·km) ÷ 1000 in kg. The factor is a well-to-wheel (WTW) intensity — it includes the emissions of producing and burning the fuel. MatQuo shows a low, typical and high value because the real factor depends on vehicle/vessel class, load factor and empty running; a single number would overstate precision.

Limitations

Planning estimate, not a certified carbon-accounting figure. It does not include warehousing, handling, refrigeration, detours or the embodied carbon of the goods. For formal reporting use the specific GLEC/DEFRA/EcoTransIT factor (ISO 14083) for your exact lane and enter it in the custom-factor box. Air freight carries high uncertainty; use only where genuinely relevant.

Factors are read live from MatQuo's verified transport dataset (/data/transport-factors.json); every result shows its source below.
