Active-Additive → Masterbatch Rate Calculator
You know the target active concentration in the final film and the active content of the masterbatch. This finds the masterbatch addition rate. Updates as you type.
Formula
MB fraction = target active fraction ÷ active fraction in MB
All on a mass basis. The target is converted to a fraction first: ppm ÷ 1,000,000; % ÷ 100; g/kg ÷ 1000; kg/t ÷ 1000. Then MB kg = quantity × MB fraction and base resin = quantity − MB.
Worked example
Target slip = 500 ppm active in the film; masterbatch is 10% active. MB fraction = 0.0005 ÷ 0.10 = 0.5 wt% → 5 kg MB per 1000 kg finished blend, 995 kg base resin.
Assumptions & limitations
Assumes the active is delivered only by this masterbatch and is fully retained in the film (no loss on processing, no active already present in the base resin). If several additives contribute the same active, sum them separately. This tool does not recommend a target level — enter the value from your specification or additive supplier.
Computed by the shared MatQuo masterbatch engine (/tools/mb-engine.js). Method shown in full above.
FAQ
500 ppm from a 10% masterbatch?
0.5 wt% masterbatch → 5 kg per tonne of finished blend.
What is ppm?
Parts per million by mass: 1 ppm = 1 g per tonne = 0.0001%.
